Meghan Trainor Has a Really Sweet Reason for Losing 20 Pounds
Body confidence icon Meghan Trainor recently shed 20 pounds. The way she did it — as well as why — is totally inspiring.
Meghan Trainor has been a beacon of body confidence since she exploded into the scene in 2014 with her big-booty anthem "All About the Bass." Recently the newly engaged star revealed she dropped a whopping 20 pounds. What's even more awesome is that her reasons for losing weight were based on self-love and wanting to be healthy.
Trainor divulged to E! News that she has been focusing on her health and fitness, dropping the 20 pounds by eating a healthy diet and finding a workout routine she could stick with. Her motivation was not simply slimming down for her walk down the aisle with fiance Daryl Sabara, but for the sake of her future children. "One day we'll have kids," she explained to them. "I want to be the healthiest I can be for those kids." Sweet, right?
She also told Entertainment Tonight that the future Mr. Trainor is responsible for her positive outlook on health and fitness and that he helped her get into the best shape of her life. "He's changed my entire life. He cooks for me and taught me how to cook," she exclaimed. "He taught me how you can feel better if you eat healthier and exercise, even mentally."
Trainor doesn't just like working out — she's totally in love with it. And it helped her get into a better mental place after her second vocal cord surgery. "After my second surgery I went into this dark place, and he was like, 'You want to workout?' And I was like, 'No, but OK.' But now I love it. I'm obsessed with it, and I've never felt better."
Trainor is totally onto something. A recent study found that the secret to falling in love with exercise is as simple as changing your mindset. Regularly active women view working out as being in line with all the things in life that bring happiness — including social connectivity, relaxation and feelings of accomplishment. People who view exercise as a chore usually end up giving up quickly because they don't see results. Basically, it's her "obsession" with exercise that is making her successful with it.
So just how does the Grammy winner break a sweat? While other stars rely on expensive trainers, take tons of pricey classes at exclusive fitness studios or even drop loads of cash on fancy at-home gyms, Trainor's method is a lot more budget-friendly — and she doesn't even have to leave her house to get in a workout. She's been using the Focus T25 with Shaun T program, a 25-minute routine which focuses on a different body part every day, and she couldn't be more thrilled with it. "It's amazing. I bought the DVDs. I'm obsessed with it," she said about the program that sells for less than $75 on Amazon.
As for her diet, she keeps it simple, healthy and clean. Five things she always keeps in her refrigerator are water, lemons, turkey, celery and chicken.
Trainor's health-and-fitness ethos is totally refreshing and inspiring. Her weight-loss motivations had very little to do with looking — and everything to do with feeling — a certain way, which makes her a total body-confidence role model in our book!
