Detox

The Master Cleanse acts a detoxifier for the body. The only things allowed on the diet are the lemonade mixture, laxative herbal tea, water, salt water flush, and herbal tea. Supplemental vitamins or other substances such as alcohol, tobacco, caffeine and drugs are not to be taken. The body will begin to detox itself of these substances and it will also begin to release any toxins in the body. Experiencing bad breath and a white film on the tongue indicate that the body is beginning to detox itself.

Colon Cleanse

The lack of solid food intake, laxative herbal tea and salt water flush help cleanse the colon. The absence of sold food means it will not accumulate in the digestive system and it will improve the digestion process. The laxative herbal tea will help soften any remaining stool and eventually produce a bowel movement. The salt water flush, which consists of 1 tsp. of sea salt and 1 quart of warm water, will produce several bowel movements in a minimum of one hour. The laxative and flush will cleanse the colon and make sure that it remains clean.

Weight Loss

The lemonade mixture provides minimum caloric intake during the diet. The maple syrup in the lemonade mixture will provide minerals and vitamins. Due to the lack of calories ingested during the diet, the body will experience weight loss. More weight loss can be achieved with exercise while on the diet. However, it is important to remember not to overexert yourself during the cleanse because of calorie restriction.
