The Atkins Diet is a low-carbohydrate approach to losing weight. It puts an emphasis on eating meat, fish, eggs, cheese and vegetables while strictly limiting consumption of carbohydrates. P.J. Doolin at Atkins.com says the company has worked with restaurants in the past to offer Atkins-approved items on their menus, but there were no such partnerships in effect in September of 2010. However, many restaurants have jumped on the low-carb bandwagon and include a carb count in the nutritional information they provide about their menu items.
Cracker Barrel
Cracker Barrel makes it easy for people following the Atkins Diet to choose wisely at its restaurants. Cracker Barrel has its Low Carb Offerings menu section, with items such as burgers without the bun and salads without croutons. It lists the amount of carbs in its main dishes and sides. If you want zero net carbs, try the catfish or steaks.
Boston Market
Boston Market provides extensive information about the ingredients in its products and offers a listing of total carbs for its menu items. For example, you can purchase a rotisserie chicken or roasted turkey and get no carbs at all. Adding gravy can add about 8g of carbs.
Chilis
The Chili's website offers a nutritional breakdown of the foods listed on its menus. An appetizer of wings with bleu cheese is listed as having only 4g of carbohydrates. A house salad with no dressing and a sirloin steak each have 15g. A side of smoked bacon has zero carbs, while the side of avocado slices has just 4g.
Denny's
The Denny's restaurant chain also posts nutritional data that includes the amount of carbs in its menu items. Scrambled eggs have just 1g of carbohydrates, a ham and cheese omelet has 4g and the All-American Slam has 5g. Steaks and grilled chicken are other good low-carb choices.
Red Lobster
Red Lobster's Lighthouse Menu guides diners to high-protein, low-carb food choices. It includes meals such as lobster, salmon, tilapia, rainbow trout and shrimp cocktail. The menu lists calories, fat and sodium content, too.
Ruby Tuesday
Ruby Tuesday is another restaurant that has responded to consumer demands for more nutritional information by posting a menu guide that includes carbohydrate counts. It notes that the numbers listed do not include side items or dipping sauces served on the side. Sides such as asparagus or green beans will add only 3g of carbs. Some steaks and seafood items have 5g of carbs or less.
