How to Calculate Metabolic Age
Your metabolic age will give you an idea of what kind of physical health you are in using your base metabolic rate, or BMR. If your metabolic age is lower than your actual age, it means your body is in good health.
Your metabolic age will give you an idea of what kind of physical health you are in using your base metabolic rate, or BMR. If your metabolic age is lower than your actual age, it means your body is in good health. However, if your metabolic age is higher than your actual age, it may mean you are having health problems or may need to change your eating and exercising habits. Your metabolic age depends on your activity level, genetics, height, weight and actual age. You get your metabolic age when you compare your basal metabolic rate with the basal metabolic rate of your age group. Your BMR is a measurement of your body's energy, or the minimum level of calories your body needs when it's resting. You can easily calculate your metabolic age if you are honest with your measurements and use the right tool.
Step 1
Write down your measurements. To calculate your metabolic age, you need to know your height, weight and age. For example, a young female might be 26 years old, 5 feet, 6 inches, and weigh 133 lbs.
Step 2
Find the right tool. There are many ways to calculate your metabolic age, but the best way is to let the experts do it. The website Pure LifeStyle makes it very easy for you to figure out your metabolic age. Find the tabs on the left-hand side of the web page, and choose the calculator tab. Under the calculator tab, choose the metabolic age tab.
Step 3
Enter your information. Put in the measurements you wrote down earlier into the tabs on the web page. Make sure you put them in the right box. For your weight, you must put 133 lbs. in the pounds box, not the stone box. The pound box is the box on the right. Then put in your height by using both boxes. Put how many feet tall you are in the left box and the inches in the right box.
Step 4
Compare your age. For example, a 26-year-old female who is 5-feet, 6-inches tall and weighs 133 lbs. has a metabolic age of 27. Ideally, you would like to have a metabolic age that is lower than your actual age, but if it is around the same, it means you are in about the same health as you should be for your age. If your metabolic age is much higher than your actual age, you should see your doctor. You may want to change your exercise or diet plan.
