Oatmeal has long been used to treat dry skin and itching associated with conditions such as eczema and rashes. It contains the avenathramide class of antioxidants, which are effective in reducing redness and protecting the skin against UV sun damage, according to Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies' Active Naturals Institute website. Adding oatmeal to your daily facial regimen can benefit you even if you use it only to naturally exfoliate your face.

Face Wash

Place oatmeal in a food processor or blender and process it until it is finely ground.

Prepare a bowl with cool water. Don't use an oatmeal wash over a sink because the oatmeal can clog the drain.

Mix 2 tablespoons of oatmeal with enough milk to fully dampen the oatmeal. Apply the mixture to your face and gently rub it over your skin to exfoliate.

Rinse your face with cool water from the bowl. Discard the used oatmeal.

Face Paste

Prepare a bowl with cool water.

Mix 2 tablespoons of ground oatmeal and 1 tablespoon of baking soda with just enough water to form a soft paste.

Dampen your face with water. Apply the mixture your face with your fingertips and gently rub to exfoliate the skin.

Rinse your face with water and discard the used oatmeal.

Tip

Make an oatmeal face mask by combining 2 tablespoons of oatmeal with yogurt until it reaches the desired consistency. Apply the mixture to your face and wait for five minutes. Rinse.
