The skin on your toes may become dry if you have been using sandals during the summer months and they are constantly exposed to the elements. Skin on your feet will always tend to be drier than the rest of your body, as this promotes calluses that protect your feet from getting injured if you step on rough or sharp objects. However, you can soften it by using appropriate moisturizers that will hydrate your skin. If the dry skin on your toes is due to an infection or fungus, you need to contact a foot doctor or podiatrist to receive appropriate care.

Fill a wide and shallow basin with warm water and add two tbsp. of Epsom salts.

Sit comfortably on a low chair and place the basin with water at your feet with a large towel underneath in case you drip or spill some of the water.

Soak your feet in the water for 15 to 20 minutes. You can soak each foot individually or both at the same time, depending on the size of your basin. If the water cools off after your first foot soaks, add more warm water for the next one.

Pat your feet dry and use a pumice stone to rub any dead skin cells off your toes. This should be an easy process since the dead skin cells have been softened after soaking in the warm water.

Rinse your feet with warm water and use a mixture of honey and sugar to further exfoliate the skin on your toes and entire feet. Use your index finger to reach between each toe, rubbing the honey and sugar with gentle pressure. Honey is not only nourishing for your skin, it also has antibacterial properties that will help your toes remain free from infections, according to herbalist Rosemary Gladstar in her book, "Family Herbal-A Guide to Living Life with Energy Health and Vitality."

Rinse off the honey and sugar with warm water and dry your feet with a clean towel.

Apply a thick moisturizing cream to your toes. If you decide to make your own cream, use only natural ingredients like beeswax, herbs and essential oils.

Wear socks until the moisturizing cream has been fully absorbed by the skin in your toes, and keep reapplying cream each night until you feel the skin is no longer dry or rough.

warning

Avoid exfoliating your toes more than once a week or you can irritate your skin.
