Burgers made with ground pork are a juicy, tasty alternative to beef or turkey burgers. You can cook homemade or prepared pork burgers quickly in a hot skillet on the stove. Preparing your own pork burger patties at home lets you take control of exactly what quality of pork you use and what ingredients go into your burger. Some prepared burger patties can be high in sodium and preservatives. Choose organic pork when possible to keep pesticides and hormones out of your burger.

Step 1

Drizzle 1 teaspoon of a healthy oil, such as organic olive or canola oil, into a large skillet.

Step 2

Heat the skillet over medium to medium-high heat for 3 to 4 minutes.

Step 3

Place the burger patties in the hot pan. Cook them for 4 to 5 minutes per side, flipping them with a spatula.

Step 4

Check the burgers for doneness with an internal meat thermometer. Remove the pork burgers from the pan when the temperature reaches 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

Tip

Serve pork burgers on toasted whole-wheat buns to add fiber to your meal.

Choose fat-free burger toppings, such as salsa, instead of mayonnaise or other high-fat toppings.

warning

Always cook pork to the recommended temperature to prevent food-borne illness.
