When you need to cook a large amount of bacon for a crowd or for a recipe, frying the bacon in a skillet can be tedious and dangerous. The pooled bacon grease in the bottom of the frying pan can splatter, causing burns. Most modern griddles feature a sloped design, which allows the grease to run away from the bacon into an oil reservoir at the bottom of the griddle, which makes cooking the bacon safer and healthier.
Step 1
Preheat the griddle to 325 to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. When water sputters when you sprinkle it on the surface, it's ready for bacon.
Step 2
Use tongs to place the bacon strips one-by-one in a single layer onto the surface of the griddle.
Step 3
Cook the bacon for 5 to 8 minutes on the first side. When the bacon reduces in size and becomes brown on the edges, use the tongs to flip the slices over. If grease begins to pool around the slices, use a silicone spatula to scrape the excess grease down into the oil reservoir.
Step 4
Cook other foods alongside the bacon, if necessary. You can add other breakfast foods like eggs, pancakes and sausage, especially if your griddle has a large surface.
Step 5
Remove the bacon once it has reached your preferred level of doneness. Complete cooking time should be anywhere from 10 to 16 minutes, depending on the heat of your griddle. Place bacon onto a waiting plate and blot with a paper towel to remove excess oil and serve.
