How to Remove Breast Hair

 by Heather Topham Wood

It is not uncommon for women to develop dark hairs on their breasts. The hair is likely to occur near the nipples and will typically first appear around puberty when hormone fluctuations are occurring. You may only develop a few strands that need removal. Avoid plucking or applying chemicals to remove the breast hair.

This may cause pain since the area around the nipples can be sensitive.

Step 1

Cut the hair with a pair of nail scissors. Place your finger at the base of the hair to protect the skin from the scissors. Cut the hair when the skin is completely dry. Repeat as needed.

Step 2

Remove breast hair by shaving. Apply an aloe-based shaving gel that does not contain any alcohol or harsh chemicals. Glide the razor over the hair, and shave in the direction of the hair growth. Keep your nipple protected by covering it with your hand while shaving. Shaving the hair does not encourage more hair growth, but the hair may look thicker when it grows back in. Shave regularly to maintain results.

Step 3

Make an appointment with a plastic surgeon or cosmetic dermatologist to discuss laser hair-removal treatment. During the procedure, highly concentrated light destroys the hair follicle to prevent regrowth. Depending on the amount of hair on the breasts and how you respond to treatment, multiple sessions may be required.

Tip

Keep in mind that not every woman will be a good candidate for laser hair-removal on her breasts. The hair will need to have some pigment to it and also be fairly coarse for the procedure to work. The doctor will examine the hair before ordering the procedure.
