Scalp pimples are a condition that can affect anyone, irrespective of their age. While bad scalp hygiene or excessive sebum production can be a cause of scalp pimples, they also occur after cosmetic hair transplant treatments as a result of inflammation in the hair follicles. Because these pimples are quite itchy, they can be irritating unless treated and can make combing a painful task. Most often, the pimples are filled with pus but are easily treated.

Causes

While the exact cause of scalp pimples is unknown even to doctors, they are attributed to a poor hygiene and diet. Sometimes, they can be a temporary side effect resulting from hair transplant treatments because the hair follicles become inflamed. If you haven't been washing your hair regularly, the dust and grime caught in the hair can cause scalp pimples.

Symptoms

You will not be able to notice scalp pimples at the onset because of your hair. However, if you are finding normal tasks like brushing and combing hair difficult to do because of scalp pain, you can run your hands on the scalp. If you feel small painful growths, they are most likely scalp pimples. If you have undergone a hair transplant, you will be able to notice scalp pimples quite clearly. They may or may contain pus.

Treatment

Though there are a lot of over the counter treatments available for scalp pimples, it is best to stick to anti acne solutions. First, make sure you wash your hair with a mild shampoo regularly. You can also use ointments with Benzoyl Peroxide or Salicylic Acid on the pimples. A proper hair wash routine is ideally enough to heal scalp pimples over time but if they are becoming an embarrassing problem, it is best to consult your doctor.

Hair Transplant

Hair transplant causes a lot of stress to the hair follicles, which is why scalp pimples are a common problem that most people experience after undergoing cosmetic hair transplant treatments. Though regular washing and anti acne treatments are suggested for scalp pimples, it is best to consult your cosmetologist in case of hair transplant since some anti acne creams may interfere with the effectiveness of the treatment.

Considerations

Your doctor should warn about scalp pimples before starting the process of a hair transplant and recommend any medication that will be required. Follow your doctors recommendations and continue any medication or cream as directed. If the pimples persist or appear to become infected, contact your doctor immediately.
