Powder hair texturizers are ideal for adding volume to fine hair or freshening up when there's no time for a wash. They are best applied at the root and massaged in with fingers to absorb oils, while giving hair a freshly shampooed lift and a stylized look without heat. A powder hair texturizer can be made with everyday household ingredients, for daily styling and on the go touch ups.

Step 1

Place 3 tablespoons of baby powder with talc in a bowl.

Step 2

Add a teaspoon of cornstarch to the mixture for light hair, or a teaspoon of cocoa powder for dark hair.

Step 3

Add ¼ teaspoon of any essential oil to the bowl. Select the oil with the most favorable scent, such as lavender or peppermint. This will add a fresh scent to the powder and keep the hair from becoming overly dry.

Step 4

Mix the powders and oil together with a spoon until just blended.

Step 5

Pour the mixture into an empty condiment shaker for easy application.

Step 6

Sprinkle the texturizer on to the root of the hair, and massage it in with your fingers as needed.
