An alternative, and safer solution, is to use natural methods to remove hair from a drain.
Boiling Water Method
Step 1
Boil a gallon of water and pour into the bucket.
Step 2
Pour one-third of the boiling water slowly into the drain. Wait a few minutes and pour another one-third of the water into the drain. Wait a few minutes and pour the remainder of the water into the drain.
Step 3
Repeat this process every 10 days to keep drains free of hair.
Plunger Method
Step 1
Inspect the plunger to ensure its suction cup will cover the drain hole.
Step 2
Apply petroleum jelly to the rim of the plunger. This will create a tight seal between the suction cup and drain hole.
Step 3
Place a rag in the sink overflow hole to block and create a vacuum.
Step 4
Place the plunger suction cup over the drain and push down hard 15 to 20 times.
Step 5
Turn the faucet on and test the drain. Repeat if necessary.
Baking Soda/Vinegar Solution
Step 1
Sprinkle baking soda into the drain.
Step 2
Pour the vinegar into the drain. You will hear a hissing sound and see bubbles form as the vinegar reacts with the baking soda.
Step 3
Wait 15 to 20 minutes for the solution to work, then turn the faucet on and flush the drain with very hot water.
Step 4
Repeat if necessary. When you finish, pour lemon juice into the drain to eliminate any unpleasant odors.
